The List: Top 20 Revenge Movies of All Time

The best films of all time have a lot in common: big stars, auteur screenwriters and directors, and a noticeable lack of Jessica Alba. But while the themes of great films all vary, most have the same thing in common: revenge! Few topics cause America to flood the cineplexes than someone done wrong on a quest to make it right. That’s one of the reasons Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is the most anticipated film of the summer.

But what movies did it better than the rest? Which gave us a tortured hero and an unconquerable villain who Had It Comin’? Ladies and gentlemen: the Top 20 Revenge Films of All Time!

20. The Limey (1999) - Terence Stamp travels from London to Los Angeles in an attempt to avenge his daughter’s death, but is soon deported for driving on the wrong side of the road.

19. Sweeney Todd (2007) - Johnny Depp even makes slitting throats sexy.  Is there anything he can’t do?

18. Taken (2008) - This movie has it all. Revenge, throat chops and the coveted CIA backstory! Liam Neeson travels across about four countries and kicks ass from stereotypical dirty frenchmen to the ever-cold american business man. If you are tired of watching Vin Diesel trudging lazily through what critics consider “action movies” then maybe you should turn on to Liam Neeson. One of his next movies will be the biopic about Abe Lincoln and you can bet your ass he’ll deliver a throat chop to that coward John Wilkes Booth! Bad ass…

17. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) - a young man name Dante is falsely imprisoned by his jealous friend who wanted and gets his girlfriend.  After 13 long years the young man escapes and uses a hidden treasure to get his revenge.  The moral of the story, money does buy love because if Dante would have shown up as a jailbird in rags, his girl would’ve been like, “Dante who, never met him?”

16. Desperado (1995) - Antonio Banderas seek revenge against Salma Hayek’s boobs for being so awesome… and maybe against some Mexican banditos. It’s really hard to keep track of it all.
